Current techniques have increased the proportion of patients who can be helped by hair transplants while at the same time producing far more natural looking results than those of the past. In modern hair transplanting, grafts are prepared from a strip of donor area skin that is sectioned under various types of magnification into whatever kind of graft or grafts that are required.  The donor site is sutured closed and produces a hairless scar.

Generally, the front third-to-half of a totally bald area can be completely finished in two to three sessions. Many patients with smaller areas can be completed in one session which usually lasts several hours.

A new generation of hair is usually visible at the surface of the scalp by the 12th week after transplanting, but this may occur slightly earlier, or up to eight weeks later in a few patients. These hairs grow at the same rate as they did in their original location (which is usually 1/2 inch per month). If you have any questions or concerns regarding the cosmetic information presented above, please feel free to contact us at (973) 571-2121, extension 135.
