Brazilian Butt Lift
Enhancing curves to fill out your favorite jeans or skirt is possible with a Brazilian butt lift. This procedure has become significantly more popular during the past several years. A Brazilian butt lift uses unwanted fat from another area of the patient’s body to augment the buttocks.
What Is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
For many years, plastic surgeons used synthetic implants for buttock augmentation procedures. They are still an option, but most patients choose a Brazilian butt lift procedure to enhance the buttocks. Using excess fat tissue from areas such as the hips, waist, abdomen, or thighs to add volume to the buttocks creates a curvier rear and a slimmer waist. The idea of natural buttock augmentation is attractive to many of the women and even some men who want a Brazilian butt lift.
Despite the procedure’s name, a Brazilian butt lift is designed to augment buttocks but doesn’t lift sagging skin. Another body contouring procedure, called a butt lift, is the technique used for patients who have excess skin.
What Is Fat Grafting?
The technique used to extract fat tissue from one area of the body and re-inject it to augment another area is called fat grafting or fat transfer. Fat grafting has been used for a long time, especially for facial rejuvenation procedures, but is more recently been adapted to augment the buttocks and the breasts.
Fat grafting is a 3-step process:
- Harvesting fat: Using specialized liposuction techniques, our board-certified plastic surgeons gently extract excess fatty tissue.
- Processing fat: The tissue removed by liposuction includes impurities and excess fluid. Spinning the fat in a centrifuge separates, rinses, and purifies the fat
- Re-injecting fat: Our surgeons use specialized fat grafting cannulas to methodically inject the fat into the buttocks in a precise matrix to ensure smooth results.
Not all of the fat cells survive the transfer process, so surgeons typically use more fat than needed to get the desired results. Our surgeons use power-assisted liposuction(PAL) because it offers the unique benefits necessary for Brazilian butt lift surgery. PAL uses the proven tumescent liposuction technique, in which surgeons inject a solution premixed with an anesthetic and epinephrine to help limit bleeding. Once he saturates the treatment area, they use a small, thin tube to suction out fat.
It’s important to closely follow your doctor’s post-surgical instructions. Expect the initial recovery to take about 2 weeks, when bruising and swelling gradually resolve on their own. Wearing a compression garment helps reduce swelling and speeds the healing of the liposuction treatment area.
Brazilian butt lift patients should avoid sitting directly on their buttocks for several weeks after the procedure. We can recommend special pillows that can help you avoid putting direct pressure on the buttocks. This sounds inconvenient, but most patients believe the results are more than worth it. Fat cells transferred to the buttocks should live and remain in their new home, so the results are virtually permanent.
